When you deposit funds into your dub account, you don't have to wait for the deposit to fully process before you can start investing. The Instant Buying Power is a feature that gives you immediate access to a portion of your deposited funds (up to $1,000) before they fully settle through the ACH process. This allows you to start investing right away without waiting for bank processing times.
How Instant Buying Power Works
When you make a deposit to your dub account, your buying power becomes available in the following stages:
1. Instant Buying Power (Up to $1,000)
- Available immediately after initiating your deposit
- Can be used right away to invest in portfolios
- Subject to our standard verification processes
2. Regular Buying Power
- For deposits over $1,000:
- The remaining amount becomes available the next business day after your deposit
Example: If you deposit $5,000 on Monday, you'll get $1,000 instantly and the remaining $4,000 on Tuesday.
Important Considerations
Potential Risks and Fees
Rejected Deposits:
- If your deposit is rejected by your bank but you've already used the instant buying power to invest:
- You'll need to deposit additional funds to cover those investments
- If you don't, dub may need to liquidate those positions
- A $30 fee applies to your dub account for any reversed ACH transfers
Why Your Buying Power May Not Match Your Deposit
After depositing, you might notice your buying power looks different than expected. Here's why:
- You deposited more than $1,000: Only the first $1,000 is available instantly. The rest becomes available the next business day.
- You already used some buying power: If you've already invested some of your funds, your available buying power will be reduced by that amount.
- Your deposit is still settling: Deposits take up to 5 business days to fully settle through the ACH process. During this time, your buying power may fluctuate as funds move through different stages.
- A previous deposit was reversed: If a prior deposit was rejected by your bank, the associated buying power may have been removed from your account.
Example: You deposit $2,000 on Monday. You'll see $1,000 in buying power right away (instant buying power), then the remaining $1,000 becomes available on Tuesday. If you invest $500 on Monday, your available buying power drops to $500 — even though you deposited $2,000.
Withdrawing Instant Buying Power
Instant buying power is fronted to you as a convenience so you can start investing immediately, but it has not yet settled through the ACH process. You can use it to invest, but you cannot withdraw it to your bank account until your deposit fully settles (up to 5 business days).
