Investment Thesis
Recognizing the reality that money plays a substantial role in politics, we believe that it is plausible that major donors to politicians may benefit if those politicians win high office. Large donors may be motivated to donate to a candidate if they believe that the candidates’ preferred policies will be beneficial to their companies or industries. Furthermore, large donors enjoy substantial access to politicians, which may under some circumstances allow them to influence government policy in their favor.
The Harris and TRUMP portfolios are discretionary portfolios formed by examining records of donations to presidential campaigns and allied groups. We gather donation information from various sources, including but not limited to the Federal Election Commission and independent organizations such as opensecrets.org.
The portfolio will contain ETFs that focus on industries whose donations are heavily weighted toward Harris or Trump. It will also contain individual stocks associated with companies that send large amounts of donations to either Harris or Trump, chosen at the discretion of the portfolio manager. We will rebalance as new donation information becomes available.
Risks:
This portfolio invests exclusively in equity securities and therefore is susceptible to the inherent volatility and potential declines that characterize the stock market. Additionally, this portfolio may become heavily exposed to industries and individual stocks that are closely associated with a presidential candidate.
